This is the story of when I volunteered for submarines, the training in the United Kingdom with the Royal Navy and subsequent life in various Australian submarines and the base of HMAS Platypus. It follows all the shenanigans of the submariners afloat and ashore and the doctrine of ‘work hard/play harder’. I was promoted to Warrant Officer which, ultimately was a backhanded compliment, and of my posting to Navy Office, Canberra. It also tells of my retirement from the RAN after 20 years 1 month service, and my involvement with the navy whilst a civilian.
