The first book in a series of three.buy them as a set or individually. The first book in a series of three. This is the story of how I joined the Royal Australian Navy as an apprentice fitter and turner at age 16 directly from school. It describes my trade and technical training and life in the RAN at HMAS Nirimba, HMAS Cerberusand HMAS Watson in the 1960s. After 5 years of intensive training and exams that obliterated any previous school exams, I became a fully indentured tradesman – a naval Artificer – a ‘Tiffy’.
