Terry Rowell has a unique view of the submarine force and the Navy as a whole, having served in it for some 47 years, 33 years of that in submarines. Terry actively participated and contributed from the beginnings of the submarine force in the 1960s; through the development of the Oberons; the Submarine Weapons Upgrade Program when the submarine force entered the digital era;  Terry was also instrumental as the senior instructor at the RANSETF (The Royal Australian Navy Submarine Escape Training Facility) in Western Australia. This marked the transition of submarine escape training from the Royal Navy to the Royal Australian Navy.  Terry is particularly well-placed to observe and comment on the transition from the Oberons to the Collins the Navy underwent.

Description

We are extremely fortunate that Terry Rowell has chosen to write this book. He has a unique view of the submarine force and the Navy as a whole, having served in it for some 47 years, 33 years of that in submarines. Terry actively participated and contributed from the beginnings of the submarine force in the 1960s; through the development of the Oberons; the Submarine Weapons Upgrade Program when the submarine force entered the digital era; the introduction and acceptance of the Collins Class; the arrival of women to serve as submariners. Terry was also instrumental as the senior instructor at the RANSETF (The Royal Australian Navy Submarine Escape Training Facility) in Western Australia. This marked the transition of submarine escape training from the Royal Navy to the Royal Australian Navy. This is a period of amazing social and technological change, and Terry is particularly well-placed to observe and comment on the transition.
